Fort
Stanwix National Monument
2010 "School's Out" Programs - Rome, New York
Visit Fort Stanwix, where our shared heritage comes
alive everyday, and explore the sights, sounds, smells
and feel of the 18th century. Discover how people
endured harsh lives along the Oneida Carrying Place, the
superhighway of the 18th century, and directly
contributed to the American victory at Saratoga and
westward expansion through New York’s gateway to the
west.

Visit the Marinus Willett Collections
Management and Education Center with
exhibits that explore the story of Fort
Stanwix and the Mohawk Valley through the
eyes of the people who lived in New York
during the American Revolutionary War.
Make a Difference" is this year’s theme for
the "School’s Out at the Fort" programs. As
in past years, each of the six events will
feature an activity and a take-home project
that revolves around the purpose of that
school break. "There are so many simple ways
that we can make a difference in our own
lives or the lives of someone else," says
Park Ranger Valerie Morgan, "Come join us as
we have fun along the way!"
The Programs Include:
May 31 – Memorial Day – Remembering Those
Who Made a Difference
Oct. 11 – Columbus Day – Discover How You
Can Make A Difference!
Nov.11 – Veteran’s Day – Make a Difference
for Someone in the Military
The programs are free, and start at 1 p.m.
and end at 2 p.m. in or around the Marinus
Willett Center at the intersection of James
St. and Erie Blvd., Rome, NY. Children ages
from 5 to 12 are encouraged to participate
with their families.
Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven
days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission
to the park is free. Activities are ongoing
unless noted. For more information about
upcoming events please call the park at
(315) 338-7730. Please visit the park’s web
page at
www.nps.gov/fost for additional
